Queensland Rugby League, with the support of Liquorland, are proud to announce Ty Williams and Clay Harris will join the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons coaching staff as assistant coaches for the 2026 season.
The pair will work alongside head coach Nathan Cross, rounding out a coaching group tasked with preparing the Maroons for the upcoming campaign.
A former Queensland representative and North Queensland Cowboys outside back, Williams played 151 NRL matches and was a member of the Cowboys side that reached the 2005 NRL Grand Final.
Since transitioning from his playing career, he has built a respected coaching resume across the Hostplus Cup, serving as head coach of the Northern Pride from 2017 to the end of the 2023 season.
Williams has also contributed to elite pathway environments through the North Queensland Cowboys women’s program, working across player preparation and program delivery while supporting both emerging and experienced athletes.
His understanding of Queensland rugby league systems and high-performance standards has been a consistent feature of his coaching career.
Cross said Williams’ experience across playing, coaching and pathways would add valuable perspective to the Maroons program.
“Ty brings a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in the Queensland system,” Cross said.
“His experience at different levels of the game will be an important asset for our playing group.”
Harris joins the Maroons following a successful 2025 campaign as an assistant coach of the Burleigh Bears Hostplus Cup premiership-winning side.
He brings strong experience from high performing club environments from the Gold Coast Titans U20’s, Tweed Seagulls and now the Burleigh Bears.
Cross highly endorsed his newest assistant for his innate ability to improve a team in their finest details.
“I have coached with Clay for many years, spanning appointments at the Titans U20’s and Seagulls Hostplus Cup. His calm temperament and high level of detail will be a wonderful asset to our program,” added Cross.
Harris said the opportunity to be involved with the Maroons was one he was proud to take on.
“To be part of the Maroons coaching staff is a huge honour,” Harris said.
The Queensland jersey means a lot, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to a program with such a strong history and identity.
