Lenehan's lending hand to those in need

The love of all things local is Jets’ captain Blake Lenehan’s greatest strength.

When the bruising forward learned the plight of two Ipswich schoolchildren who were critically injured in a car accident, Lenehan immediately lent out his big heart, and his bigger locks of hair to help.

Lennox Kasupene and Eli Kleidon were at their local fish and chip shot in North Booval, when an out-of-control car mounted the sidewalk.

The kids required a winch to free them from the car, sustaining critical injuries as a result of the accident.

When Lenehan heard about the accident and the serious conditions of the two junior footy players, he sprang into action and found a way to help fundraise for Eli and Lennox.

“I have been looking for a reason to cut my dreadlocks off,” Lenehan said.

“This seemed like a great reason to help two young Ipswich rugby league players that may need help for the rest of their lives,

“I am trying to raise at least $10,000 for the boys and whomever donates the most can even cut the hair.

“It’s just so upsetting; they were just doing something we all have done, stop and have a coke and chips after school and this horrible incident happens.

“I felt it on so many levels, a dad, a player, a young Ipswich boy, I am and have been all those things.”

Lenehan will cut his beloved dreadlocks at the end of the Round One Hostplus Cup game against the Townsville Blackhawks.

Lenehan may be without his loved dreadlocks soon, but he will still have his big Ipswich heart.
