Five things to know about the Indigenous Jersey

Before you wear it, here’s what it stands for:

1. It’s designed with lived cultural perspective
Created by Beau Pennefather Motlop, the jersey draws on his Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori heritage; bringing together multiple cultural influences through a Torres Strait lens.

2. Every detail has meaning
From the warrior mask to the dhari, each element is intentional. These aren’t patterns for aesthetics - they represent strength, identity, ancestry and survival.

3. It centres the Torres Strait
This year’s design shifts focus to Torres Strait Islander culture - highlighting its identity, traditions and connection to sea, community and Country.

4. It reflects connection, not just individually, but collectively
Themes of family, community and shared identity run throughout the design. It mirrors the same idea as the team itself: playing for something bigger than yourself.

5. It’s grounded in legacy and storytelling
From ancient songlines to modern rugby league pathways, the jersey connects past, present and future. Telling a story that extends well beyond the field.
