2026 XXXX Foley Shield

The 2026 Foley Shield Carnival will celebrate one of Queensland rugby league’s most historic representative competitions, bringing together the state’s strongest Northern region teams for a weekend of high-quality football and regional pride.

The carnival will take place from 2 – 4 May at Stan Williams Park in Cairns, with men’s and women’s teams from across Northern Queensland, including remote regions, competing for Foley Shield honours.

QRL Northern Region manager Renae Kunst said the Foley Shield remains a crucial event on the regional rugby league calendar.

“The Foley Shield is about more than just results. It’s an opportunity for players to represent their region, play alongside the best in their area, and test themselves in a representative environment.”

“Excitedly, we will see the inception of three of our regional remote areas, NPA/TI, Mount Isa/Gulf and Southern Cape.”

“Every year, this carnival highlights just how strong and passionate rugby league is across regional Queensland. Both men's and women's players will be eager to put their best foot forward to showcase their talents and vie for selection in the Queensland Country teams.”

A long-standing fixture in Queensland rugby league, the Foley Shield has provided a platform for regional players to represent their communities with pride, while showcasing the depth of talent that exists across the state. Since its inception, the carnival has played an important role in the development pathway for players aspiring to progress to the next level.

The 2026 carnival will coincide with Far North Queensland Rugby League’s 100-year anniversary, with a dedicated reunion event planned as part of the weekend’s celebrations. The reunion will feature Queensland rugby league great, Kerry Boustead, along with panel discussions involving former Foley Shield players.

Beyond the on-field action, the carnival is underpinned by the volunteers, officials, coaches and families who continue to support the game at a community level, ensuring the Foley Shield remains one of Queensland rugby league’s most respected representative competitions.

With tradition, pride and emerging talent on show, the 2026 Foley Shield Carnival shapes as an unmissable weekend for players, communities and fans alike.
