Dolphins and Pride on collision course

The last time we saw the Redcliffe Dolphins on Kayo on a glorious Sunday afternoon was in round three against the Wynnum Seagulls and the Dolphins feasted on the Seagulls 36-16, in a comprehensive display of attacking football and brutal defence.

We haven’t had the chance to see the Northern Pride as much in 2026, and this week represents a chance for the Pride to come down to South East Queensland and show everyone what they are about on the broadcast coverage.

Sunday’s feature match, presented by National Storage, will be broadcast live and free across Qplus.tv, Kayo and 9Now.

The Pride are the only Hostplus Cup team with a winning record over the Dolphins for some reason, as the Pride have found the secret sauce to beating the Dolphins.

Only one point separates the two teams with the Dolphins on 10 points and the Pride on nine points.

The Dolphins have won the last two games against the Pride back to the 2024 extra time win in the finals.

Last round the Dolphins were too strong for their nearest and dearest rivals the Norths Devils, winning 22-10 at home.

The Dolphins kicking game brought results with three of their four tries coming from kicks.

Jack Bostock made his return from injury and scored two tries in the first 10 minutes. Bostock went arial to score with Josh James looking for him at all costs.

At 10-0 after 10 minutes, it was then time to attack the other side and from there it was the battle of the three ‘names’ – Domenico De Stradis and Mason Lome-Hindle to score and close the game out.

The kicking game of Josh James will be vital to the Dolphins attack.

The Pride are coming off a rest and will have sat back watching and waiting for their chance after a narrow two-point loss to ladder-leading Falcons two weeks ago that would have stung the boys from the north.

The Pride have had two close loses this year and won’t want those games to come back to haunt them in late August.

Jaxson Paulo will be worth giving plenty of early quality ball to this week; after four tries in five games the Cowboys winger is desperate to impress.

Another half whose kicking game will be providing distance and space will be Zac Herdegen.

The Pride seven has kicked two 40/20’s this year and the 20-year-old half will be looking to capitalise on his growing Hostplus Cup experience with 20 games.

The Moreton Bay Raiders junior and Wavell High student won’t be a stranger to Redcliffe having played 11 Meninga Cup games for the Dolphins in 2024 and already has a win over the Dolphins this year with a 28-26 win in round one of the NRLQ series.

Herdegen scored a try and kicked five from eight.

Sunday’s feature match, presented by National Storage, will be broadcast live and free across Qplus.tv, Kayo and 9Now.
