Ipswich Jets took another step towards securing a top four Hosptlus Cup berth after fending off the Central Queensland Capras at Richardson Park yesterday.
The 28-10 victory at the club’s temporary Goodna fortress ensured the Jets (23 points) maintained their grip on fourth spot ahead of the Burleigh Bears (22), Brisbane Tigers (22), Wynnum Manly Seagulls (21) and Capras (21).
Ipswich led 16-4 at half-time following tries from Sione Hopoate, Corey Ross and Jayden Wright.
It took the Capras until the 32nd minute to open their account following a smart piece of work from young fullback Banjo Walker, who took the line on to crash over.
An early second half penalty goal from Jets halfback Lachlan Ilias gave the Jets some more breathing space, before Tony Francis and Dantoray Lui ended the Capras’ fightback with late tries.
Ipswich is now set for a blockbuster clash with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, who are fresh off the bye.
