John 'Don' Munro was a devoted official of Past Brothers Club and served as a manager of representative sides and as a director on the Brisbane Rugby League Board.
Munro also was prominent in the media through his roles as an ABC cameraman and later as a technical producer.
Munro, who passed away on July 10 aged 92, won a C grade rugby league premiership with Brothers as a player in 1953 and then started coaching in the juniors when his son Scott joined Brothers.
Don became secretary of the thriving Brothers' senior club in 1974 and was part of the executive which brought Paul Broughton from Sydney to coach in the BRL, with Broughton taking the club all the way to the Grand Final.
Munro remained in the post until the club won the 1987 title under the coaching of Ross Strudwick.
A delegate to the BRL for many years, Munro was part of the decision-making process when the Broncos were granted a licence to enter the then NSWRL in 1988.
He managed representative sides coached by the likes of Strudwick, Tom Raudonikis and Paul Vautin with Vautin going on to coach Queensland at State of Origin level, while Raudonikis coached New South Wales.
At the ABC Munro covered the ABC Match of the Day at Lang Park as well as Test and Sheffield Shield cricket at the Gabba; championship golf in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria; the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane and the 1994 World Gymnastics Championships.
Don was also heavily involved with Surf Life Saving as a member of North Kirra as an active member, then as one of the founders of Mooloolaba Nippers.
Don married Heather Newland on May 2, 1959, after they met at the ABC where she worked for famed television and radio presenter, Russ Tyson.
They had four children - Scott, Craig, Brett (deceased) and Karen. Scott's son, Ben, recently played his 500th match for Brothers with QRL Director Matt O'Hanlon on hand to present him with the match ball.
Don's funeral will be held in Little Flower Catholic Church, Kedron, on Thursday, July 23 at 11am.
