BMD Weekend preview - Round 9
The top-six sprint is on in the BMD Cup, with this weekend’s results having the potential to shake up the ladder with just three rounds remaining.
In the first game of the week, Northern Pride will push for a top six spot if they can successfully win at home against the ladder leading Bears.
This will be no small feat, with the Bears coming in confident after a 38-point victory, seeing their backline have a field day.
The Tigers are hot on the top two’s tails, looking to return to winning form after suffering a surprise loss to the ninth-placed Clydesdales last week.
In front of the Tigers this weekend are the Capras. Led by Josie Wogand, who continues to lead the tackle count for the Capras, amassing an impressive 234 tackles at a 90% efficiency.
In previous matchups, the Devils have had the rub of the green against the hard fought Clydesdales.
A win could see the Devils jump to the top seed, taking a two-point lead in what shapes as a heavily favoured clash.
The Devils’ star Number one, Natalia Wright, will be looking to add to her impressive try tally, currently sitting at seven tries from just eight matches.
The fifth-placed Cutters take on the bottom of the table Seagulls in a match that could see the Cutters slide out of the top six, and secure the Seagulls their first win of the season.
The Cutters will continue to look for Sienna-May Montgomery's safe boot to lead them to victory.
In this week's match of the round, Ipswich Jets take on the South side Magpies. The last meeting between these two sides saw the Jets take home the chocolates in a two point thriller.
Both teams are coming off big wins last week, with the Jets’ winger Tenaya Yorston looking to repeat her hat-trick performance, while the Misa sisters will be aiming to add another four tries between them.
In the final match on Sunday, the Wynnum Manly Seagulls take on the Falcons. Both of these outfits are coming off three consecutive losses and will be looking to get their season back on track with a win.
For the Falcons, a victory would keep them firmly in contention for the top six.
