Queensland Rugby League’s 2026 grand finalists came together on Wednesday as preparations ramped up for a massive day of football at Kayo Stadium this Saturday.
Coaches and captains from the Sunshine Coast Falcons and Redcliffe Dolphins fronted the media ahead of their Hostplus Cup Grand Final showdown, while Souths Logan Magpies coach Kimi Breayley-Nati and Burleigh Bears coach Corey Thompson represented their sides ahead of the BMD Premiership decider.
The Hostplus Cup clash brings together the competition’s top two teams from the regular season, with Sunshine Coast coach Brad Henderson and captain Sam Burns joined by Redcliffe coach Dave Elliott and captain Sheldon Pitama at the Grand Final media day.
The Falcons enter the decider on a seven-game winning streak after securing their place with a 32-16 preliminary final victory over the Central Queensland Capras.
Redcliffe booked the other spot in emphatic fashion, overcoming Burleigh 40-22 at Kayo Stadium to set up another meeting with the minor premiers.
The two sides are no strangers to each other, with Redcliffe handing the Falcons their most recent defeat in Round 18, winning 28-14 at the same venue which will host Saturday’s Grand Final.
Before the Hostplus Cup trophy is decided, the Burleigh Bears and Souths Logan Magpies will battle for the BMD Premiership.
Breayley-Nati and Thompson were both on hand on Wednesday as their teams prepare to cap impressive finals campaigns with a premiership.
Souths Logan were the first side through to the Grand Final after holding off minor premiers Norths Devils 30-24 in a thrilling preliminary final at Premiers’ Park.
Burleigh followed a day later, surviving a late Brisbane Tigers comeback to secure a 24-22 victory and another opportunity to feature on Grand Final day after falling short in last year’s decider.
All four clubs will now complete their final preparations before attention turns to Kayo Stadium on Saturday, September 26.
The BMD Premiership Grand Final between Burleigh Bears and Souths Logan Magpies kicks off at 2.05pm, followed by the Hostplus Cup Grand Final between Sunshine Coast Falcons and Redcliffe Dolphins at 4.10pm.
Both matches will be shown live on Fox League and available via Kayo Freebies, before becoming free-to-view on demand on Qplus following the live broadcast.
