Biography

Adam Mogg's one glorious Origin campaign could have extended to many more, except for the fact he is a man of his word.

Mogg had made a verbal commitment to play with Catalan Dragons in France in 2007, when he was chosen on the wing for Queensland in Game II of that year's State of Origin series, following the withdrawal of Greg Inglis, through injury.

Mogg scored two tries on debut, as Queensland crushed New South Wales 30-6 at Suncorp Stadium. Then, in the decider in Melbourne, Mogg scored another try, in the Maroons' series clinching, 16-14 win.

Mogg played junior rugby league for Newtown Lions in his home town, Toowoomba, and then, after attending Caloundra High School, rose to prominence at Redcliffe, in the Queensland Cup, winning 'The Courier-Mail' Best and Fairest Award in 2001, after being part of premiership winning sides in 1997 and 2000.

Mogg played 106 matches for Redcliffe in five seasons, scoring 52 tries, mainly from fullback. Mogg made his NRL debut for Parramatta in 2002, and played nine games for the club in his rookie season, switching between fullback and centre.

What I like so much about the Adam Mogg story is that genuine Queensland rugby league fans deep down knew what he could do.

Mogg signed with Canberra Raiders in 2003 and made 81 appearances and scored 37 tries, between 2003-2006, bringing him to the attention of the Queensland selectors.

Despite the opportunity to continue in the NRL, and to perhaps play more Origin football, Mogg honoured his promise to Catalans and headed to France in 2007.

The highlight of his time in the northern hemisphere was a Challenge Cup final appearance at Wembley in 2007, with Catalans going down 30-8 to St Helens.

Mogg played five-eighth in that match, alongside New Zealand legend, Stacey Jones.

After three seasons with Catalans, Mogg qualified for France under the residency rules, but he did not want to deprive a French-born player of the chance at Test honours, and returned to the NRL in 2010, linking once more with Canberra.

He played 15 games for the club that year, before hanging up the boots. Mogg finished his career having played 105 NRL matches, as well as 84 matches in Super League. Mogg coached Sunshine Coast Falcons in 2011, and then took on an assistant role at Redcliffe, before joining the coaching staff at the Warriors in 2014.

Mogg was appointed Redcliffe head coach in 2016, and took the club to the 2016 and 2018 grand finals, winning the Intrust Super Cup in 2018.

Mogg works now in real estate on the Sunshine Coast.
