Biography

A damaging front row forward, Danny Nutley came through the grades at Redcliffe Dolphins, winning Colts and Reserve grade titles, and was named player of the year in 1996 when Redcliffe reached the grand final of the inaugural Queensland Cup competition, only to be beaten by Toowoomba.

Nutley was signed by the South Queensland Crushers for the 1997 ARL season, and made his first grade debut against Gold Coast Chargers in Round 7. When the Crushers folded at the end of the year, Nutley signed with English club, Warrington, where he spent four years.

He'll battle away all day and his first hit up is as hard as his last hit up.

On his return to Australia in 2002, Nutley signed with Cronulla, and in 2003 he was the club's player of the year. It was from the Sharks that Nutley made his Origin debut as an interchange forward in Game III of the 2005 series.

The following season, Nutley returned to England to play with Castleford, where he was appointed captain, and named in Super League's Dream Team at the end of the season. Sydney Roosters signed him for the 2007, but he finished his top grade career back at Cronulla, in 2008.

Nutley played 152 matches in the ARL / NRL and 134 in Super League. Now involved in the mining sector, he has two sons who play rugby union.

An accomplished trotting driver, Nutley credits much of his success in football to one of his coaches at Redcliffe, Don Gailer.
