Biography

Selwyn Cobbo, was born in Cherbourg and grew up playing junior footy with the Cherbourg Hornets. Cobbo attended Murgon State High School and was the first Indigenous student to be named as school captain.

Cobbo was later signed by the Brisbane Broncos and made a name for himself playing for Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup and Hostplus Cup, before making his NRL debut in Round 13, 2021.

The young winger hit the ground running for the Broncos in 2022 with several strong performances that lead to State of Origin selection.

Cobbo: From Cherbourg Hornets to the Maroons

Cobbo made his Origin debut in Game I at Accor Stadium on the wing, and set up the first try for Queensland with a grubber kick to Dane Gagai. Queensland went on to win the game 16-10 and the series.

The young flyer continued from where he left off, scoring eight tries for the Broncos inside the opening 10 matches of the 2023 season, including a hat-trick against Manly.

Cobbo's form saw him recalled for the Maroons for Game I of the State of Origin series. The Cherbourg born winger starred for Queensland scoring two tries in the Maroons 26-18 victory over the Blues. Cobbo missed the remaining two games for the Maroons after sustaining a hip injury in Game 1.

Selwyn Cobbo: 'I can't wipe the smile off my face'

After overcoming injury, Cobbo returned to his scintillating try scoring form for the Broncos, scoring another 11 tries to finish the season with 20 tries in 24 appearances. Cobbo played on the wing for the Broncos in the NRL Grand Final against Penrith Panthers, and was later selected for the Kangaroos to play in the Pacific Championships.
