MEMBERS of the Fassifern Juniors Under 7 Maroon team cut striking figures last Saturday with the team sporting hot pink jerseys in their game.

Sandra Coupe whose son Max plays in the team said the boys were thrilled to use the occasion as a way to raise funds and awareness for a good cause.

Our little Under 7 (team) are a tough little bunch of mates, especially when looking out for one of their own, Ms Coupe said.

The boys took to the field sporting hot pink jerseys this past Saturday, July 20, in support of their team mate Zac and his family.

Zac's four year old cousin Charlee has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and the players have banded together to help raise funds so Charlee can enjoy the time she has left with her family.

Our coach, team manager and six of the boys (Max, Ashley, Zac, Josh, Harry K and Blayde) have all been together since the very first training session for the Under 6 team at the beginning of last year and the other three boys joined our little football family at the beginning of this year, Ms Coupe said.

The idea of wearing pink originated from manager Corrina wanting to do something in support of the Ferrah family.

Corrina came up with the idea of the supporters wearing pink to the games, then her son Ashley turned around and said why don't we play in pink jerseys like the women in league do?

With a lot of organising and the sponsorship from Josh's parents Andrew and Theresa Scholl from Valley Pride Produce, the jerseys were made by Struddys Sports store in Ipswich.

The boys will continue to wear the pink jerseys for the remainder of the season (there are four more games and a carnival remaining).

I along with all of the other families and supporters are just so proud of the all the boys and their coach Steven Doyle, Ms Coupe said.

(Rugby league) often gets slammed in the media for players and clubs doing the wrong thing, but stories like this dont often get the recognition that they deserve.
