THE Griffith Logan Redbacks have trampled their way to the top of the Universities Rugby League ladder, courtesy of a dominant 36-12 victory over the Griffith Dragons at a bitterly cold Griffith Nathan campus.

With the URLQ season back in full swing, it was the Redbacks that showed plenty of venom to march to an eight tries to two victory over a Dragons outfit that ran out of puff in the second half.

Griffith Logans monster forward pack again laid the foundations for victory, with the visitors storming home after holding a tight 16-6 halftime advantage.

The UQ Hounds entered a three-way logjam for third place on the competition ladder courtesy of their 18-4 upset victory over a sluggish QUT Trouts outfit in the second game of the Nathan doubleheader.

In a tight and see-sawing tussle, it was the Hounds that slipped out to a 12-0 lead early in the second half, but a much needed try to Trouts utility Tom Simpson provided QUT with a glimmer of hope.

But the fight back was cut short when Hounds fullback George Morsall crossed for a try late in the game, with Carl Zammataros simple conversion wrapping up the 14-point victory.

And the Griffith Gold Coast Panthers moved up into second spot thanks to their 20-0 victory over the USQ Ironbarks.

Round eight action sees the Dragons play host to the Trouts at Nathan, the Redbacks head south to do battle with the Panthers and the Ironbarks and Hounds face off in Toowoomba.
