Finals hopefuls the Norths Devils and Ipswich Jets played out a thrilling 32-32 draw yesterday in an emotion-charged Intrust Super Cup match at Bishop Park.

Ipswich spent the final five minutes defending its own line but the sheer weight of possession finally took its toll when Devils prop Scott Anderson barged over and Angus Cameron converted as the full time siren sounded.

It was a shattering finish for the Jets, who endured a difficult week following the passing of Colts star Jaydon Adams.

Ipswich led 28-14 with 15 minutes remaining but the match turned on its head when impressive Norths fullback Daniel Ogden made a brilliant kick return from deep inside his own half.

Ogden scored on the final play of that set of six from a pin-point cross kick from Matty Smith.

The Devils closed the gap to two points when Cameron converted a try from Namila Davui in the corner.

However, Ipswich skipped back in front by six in the 74th minute when Jarrod McInally leapt for a bomb and batted it back for Donald Malone, who displayed his silky skills with a neat pass to an unmarked Sam Martin.

Malones conversion shaved the right upright, keeping the Devils within a converted try.

The home team kicked short from the re-start and came up with possession after the Jets were ruled to have knocked-on, a call which was met with protests by the Ipswich players.

Norths camped on the Ipswich line in a nerve-racking finish before Anderson finally cracked the Jets scrambling defence.

Both teams scored four second-half tries after Ipswich went to the half-time break with a 12-10 advantage.

Norths posted the first points of the second half after Ogden combined brilliantly with Cameron.

But the middle stages of the second half belonged to the Jets, who dominated with tries from McInally, Nat Neale and Troy OSullivan.

Neale scored a great solo try and then put OSullivan into the clear with a superb off-load.

Although disappointed with the final result, the draw was enough for the Jets to move from fifth into fourth spot ahead of Sundays Channel 9 match against the Redcliffe Dolphins at Dolphin Oval.

Likewise, the draw keeps the Devils in the hunt, although the Nundah club will have to win their final two matches to be a chance of qualifying.

NORTHS DEVILS 32 (Daniel Ogden 3, Namila Davui, Matt Smith, Scott Anderson tries; Angus Cameron 4 goals) drew IPSWICH JETS 32 (Donald Malone, Jarrod McInally, Dane Phillips, Troy OSullivan, Nathaniel Neale, Sam Martin tries; Donald Malone 4 goals) at Bishop Park.
