THE outback destination of Longreach is gearing up to host a sevens carnival early next year and the host club is looking to get as many teams participating as possible.
Vice president of the Longreach Thomson Tigers Rugby League Football Club (who are hosting the event) Tim Penrose said there was already a strong interest with many teams nominating to get involved.
At the moment, we have a number of teams coming to Longreach for this event in 2014 and for the first time, we have a womens segment to this carnival as well, he said.
Some of the teams already down to attend are: Eastern Suburbs Tigers (Brisbane), Emerald Tigers (Emerald), Normanton Stingers (Normanton), Mt Isa Wanderers (Mt Isa), Clermont Superspuds (Clermont), Rocky Ringworms (Rockhampton) , Blackall Magpies (Blackall), Ipswich Makeup (Ipswich), Townsville Makeup (Townsville/Rockhampton), Brisbane Makeup (Brisbane/Rockhampton), Ilfracombe Scorpions (Ilfracombe), plus the Longreach Thomson Tigers (Longreach).
The womens teams that are coming are: Emerald Tigerettes (Emerald), Rockhampton Ladies (Rockhampton) and Clermont Ladies (Clermont). For the first time ever, the Central West have put together a womens team, with players from Birdsville, Winton, Longreach, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Barcaldine and Rockhampton joining forces to form a team.
Other womens teams that expressed an interest are: Cherbourg Hornets Ladies (Cherbourg), Brothers Ladies (Bundaberg), North Ipswich Tigers Ladies (Ipswich), Normanton Stingers Ladies (Normanton) and Gladstone Ladies (Gladstone).
Mens teams that have also expressed an interest are North Ipswich Tigers, Blackwater Crushers, Cherbourg Hornets, Bundaberg Brothers LC and Bundaberg Waves Tigers.
Being held at the Longreach Showgrounds on March 1 next year, Penrose said it would be a great event for teams from across the state to take part in.
Pack your bags, catch the 7.40 out of Brisbane and come to western Queensland for a day of fast rugby league from teams from all over Queensland.
This is a much see event.
