THIS Saturday night NRL football returns to the Garden City with the Gold Coast Titans playing the inaugural Nines champions, the North Queensland Cowboys, at Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba.
The recently formalised partnership between the Titans, Clydesdales and the Toowoomba Rugby League (TRL) should help whet the local’s insatiable appetite for top level rugby league.
Toowoomba Rugby League (TRL) representatives have been impressed by the great support shown by local supporters from the region. TRL club liaison officer Gautam Dua has been delighted with ticket sales.
“We have sold close to 6000 tickets with grand stand and ground seating snapped up early, however general admission is still available and you will be able to get a ticket at the gate on the night,’’ Dua said.
The main game will kick off at 6.30pm with both sides expected to field near full strength squads.
The feast of footy will feature the Toowoomba Clydesdales representative sides with the day set to kick off at noon. The under 16’s and under 18’s will clash with sides from Easts Tigers whilst the FOGS 20s and A grade teams take on respective sides from the Norths Devils.
The Toowoomba A grade squad will use the trial to blood some new talent with 10 players making their debut for the team. Former Wynnum Manly Intrust Super Cup player, Sean Loxley, has returned to his home town for season 2014, and jumped at the opportunity to play alongside brother Ben Loxley, who takes over the custodian role.
The 2013 TRL player of the year, halfback Matthew Duggan, will relish the chance to rekindle a successful junior partnership when he partners Sean Loxley in the halves.
