The 2014, Cairns District Junior Rugby League season kicked off over the weekend.
With the redevelopment of Jones Park, the home of CDJRL, still taking place some clubs were required to host more games than usual making Saturday a long day of football for some.
Edmonton Storm had the privilege of hosting the first game of the season at 5:30pm Friday evening and then the final match of the round at 4:00pm on Saturday.
It was a successful first round to the season with all our juniors out and about at various grounds enjoying their football.
In the U16's competition Edmonton Storm (32) defeated Southern Suburbs (20), Kangaroos (10) lost to Ivanhoes (22), Cairn Brothers (56) defeated Central Scorpians (10) and Mossman (1) was defeated by Innisfail Brothers (51).
In other U16's news a huge congratulations goes out to the U16 Northern Pride Team that defeated the Townsville Stingers in a nail biting Cyril Connell cup final at Barlow Park on Saturday afternoon.
In the U15's Edmonton Storm (24) defeated Southern Suburbs (4), Kangaroos (38) defeated Ivanhoes (8) and Cairns Brothers (34) defeated Central Scorpian (16). There was no game held between Tully and Mareeba due to a late withdrawal from the competition from the Mareeba team.
In the U14's Edmonton Storm (48) defeated Ivanhoes (10), Kangaroos Blue (48) defeated Innisfail Brothers (12), Kangaroos Gold (30) lost to Southern Suburbs (34), Mossman (4) lost to Edmonton Lightning (50) and Cairns Brothers (26) defeated Redlynch (6).
In the U13's Edmonton Storm (36) defeated Ivanhoes (28), Mossman (12) were defeated by Central Scorpians (36), Kangaroos (30) defeated Innisfail Brothers (20), Redlynch (12) lost to Mareeba (34), Southern Suburbs (38) were defeated by Tully (40) and Yarrabah forfeited their clash against Cairns Brothers.
In the U12's Southern Suburbs (20) defeated Redlynch (10), Mossman (8) were defeated by Edmonton Thunder (26), Mareeba (34) defeated Tully (6), Kangaroos Blue (48) defeated Central Scorpians (8), Edmonton Lightning (22) defeated Ivanhoes (10), Edmonton Storm (30) defeated Kangaroos Gold (4). All our U6 to U11 teams had a great day of footy and are looking forward to Round 2.
CDJRL representative teams announced
U11-U15 Cairns representative teams were announced last week and no time has been wasted with training commencing on Sunday. The U16's representative team was announced earlier this week and the boys will commence training on Sunday. Congratulations to all boys who have been selected from around the district, looking forward to watching your development over the coming weeks.
