On Saturday I ventured out to Stafford Park again at Hervey Bay to witness a couple of Under 12 games and there was plenty of talent there for all to witness.
The game on Field 1 featured Hervey Bay Seagulls East taking on Wallaroos and the Seagulls proved far too strong with a resounding 48 to 8 victory. Meanwhile on Field 2 earlier in the morning he Hervey Bay Seagulls Souths side took on the Wallaroos Blue and ran out 28 to 14 winners giving the Seagulls club a double in the Under 12 matches.
Many braved the conditions that got worse late in the first half for the Field 1 game where rain and wind came in and the spectators scurried for any available cover. In blustery wet conditions the Hervey Bay East side never missed a beat and put on a clinical display against a very brave Wallaroos side. I have to admit I was highly impressed with the Seagulls lock forward Jake Parker who was an absolute handful for the Roos side to tackle and his defence was just as good. It was also great to see the around the legs tackling of Gula Shillingsworth who in one set of six pulled off four leg wrapping efforts in a row. Towards the end of the game, the sleek footwork and dynamic speed of fullback Jaspa Wright was evident for all to see with two long range efforts within a couple of minutes of each other which delighted all that were there to witness them. Wallaroos best were there back rower Ben Sommerfield and number 17 Jake McPaul who both never stopped trying throughout the match, despite the lopsided scoreline. A young lady in Erica Akers led the scoring for the Seagulls with a hat trick, Elias Broome corssed twice as did Shillingsworth and Wright with singles to the outstanding Jake Parker and Tyran Smith Rasmussen. Jordan Tysen and Kynan Watson both crossed for tries for the Wallaroos side in a match that was a great spectacle.
Results of the field 2 game played earlier were HB Seagulls Souths 28 (Tyson Roberts 2, Lawton, Peel, Moster, Akers tries Ballin & Bennett 1 goal each) defeated Wallaroos Blue 14 (Tysen 2, Kemble tries Eckert 1 goal)
Next Saturday is going to be a huge day at Stafford Park with the seniors back at home but the juniors kick off at around 9am in which is going to be full of outstanding games and a lot of talented players gracing the fields. Most age groups all the way up to Under 18’s will be featured prior to the main game and some representative Under 11’s will be on as well.
This would be a fantastic opportunity for any potential sponsors to get on board as I know any shaded devices would be welcome and by contacting the Seagulls Club I am sure they will look after any enquiries.
Personally, I hope all the Mothers had a great day on Sunday as without them this great game of ours would not exist.
