The Southport Tigers have picked up a crucial 14-6 win over the Tugun Seahawks at Boyd Street.

Coming into the clash, a replay of the 2013 grand final, both the Tigers and Seahawks had won only one of their previous three games and they needed a win to keep touch with competition leaders Burleigh.

In what was another tough and closely contested battle, the Tigers ultimately got the job done and held onto second spot on the ladder.

Dexter Moroney and Chris Hanneman were the try scorers for the visitors while Mick Davis kicked three goals.

Tugun’s only points came from a Brandon Wakeling try and Daniel Webb conversion.

The loss is Tugun’s third in their last four games and their third consecutive at home.

Injuries and player availability has hindered Tugun recently, but three straight home losses won’t sit well with the proud Seahawks team.

They get a chance to bounce back next week when they host Tweed while Southport will be on the road against Currumbin.

Elsewhere in the 10th round of the Coast-2-Coast Bycroft Cup, the Tweed Seagulls continued their impressive form with a 42-10 win over Runaway Bay at Bycroft Oval.

The Seagulls sit alongside Southport in a tie for second place and show no signs of slowing down heading into the business end of the season.

After finishing 2013 in seventh spot Tweed has been the success story of the season and look certain to be a serious threat in September.

Meanwhile Burleigh rolled on with a 26-12 win over the Bilambil Jets. The win ensures Burleigh remain at the top of the competition ladder, while the Jets sit in sixth spot, one win outside the top five.

In the final game played this weekend the Currumbin Eagles notched their third win of the season, 28-10 over the Cudgen Hornets.

With two wins in their last three games Currumbin have moved into seventh spot and alongside Bilambil are just one win outside of the top five. Cudgen meanwhile remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder with one win this season.
