Mackay's AUSCOAL Super Cup continues to throw up surprises and last weekend was no exception.

Moranbah got the result against competition front runners Souths and Wests comfortably handled the second placed Brahmans.

This week will also see all first grade teams wearing the Men of League socks in support of the foundation that helps those involved in the game that have fallen on tough times.

A Grade

Saturday 28th June. Sarina v Moranbah at Proserpine.  6:00pm

This shapes as the match of the round and a crucial fixture for both sides.  Moranbah rolled out a few familiar faces in first grade last week when they defeated Souths so it will be interesting to see if these guys back up.  As expected Sarina easily accounted for Norths but they will undoubtedly need to go up a notch against Moranbah.  This one is a ‘tipsters’ nightmare as it is always unknown who is off shift over the hill.  Sarina to win with the home ground advantage.

Saturday 28th June.  Norths v Wests at Stadium Mackay. 3:30pm

It has been a long hard season for Norths and things do not get any easier this week against the Tigers.  The day marks Norths annual Cultural Heritage round and the first grade side will wear a specially designed jersey’s to mark the occasion thanks to local Indigenous organisation MARABISDA.  The game day will also feature traditional dancing and music.  It will be a fantastic event for the Devils as a club but unfortunately I think they will suffer some pain on the scoreboard.

Sunday 29th June. Souths v Magpies at Magpies.  2:00pm

This game will be closer than some may think.  Magpies are still in with a show for a top 5 finish and reports are that Souths are ravaged by injury at the moment.  The black and whites have struggled with consistency this year but have shown that when they are on their game they can match it with any team.  On the other hand, the Sharks very rarely lose back to back games and despite being down on troops I will tip them in a close one.

Sunday 29th May. Whitsunday v Brothers at Airlie Beach. 3:00pm

Full credit to the Brahmans for taking this game to the tourist hot spot in the Whitsunday’s.  It is a great venue for footy right on the water in Airlie Beach.  Brothers Head Coach Jerome Iakimo will need to make sure his troops don’t arrive in holiday mode!  The Brahmans by their own admission just did not turn up against Wests last round and I am sure this has been addressed through the week.  Trips north have proved difficult for visiting teams this year and I expect this to continue with the Brahmans being too strong.
