FINALS are just around the corner for Division 1 and 2 of the Brisbane and District Women’s Rugby League; and with three rounds left in both Divisions, teams are striving for that elusive top four finals spot.

Division 1 matches over the past weekend saw Souths Logan retain their unbeaten season record with a 40-16 defeat of Carina, while Aspley broke through for their maiden victory against a depleted North Ipswich side, winning 20-10. Meanwhile, Beerwah held Burleigh to 0 at home on the way to a 22-0 victory.

The Division 1 competition ladder after round 15:

1.       Souths Logan – 29

2.       Beerwah – 23

3.       Burleigh – 15

4.       North Ipswich – 11

5.       Carina – 9

6.       Aspley – 3

Souths Logan and Beerwah are certain to play finals, with both sides sitting comfortably atop the Division 1 standings. It is a case of too-little-too-late for Aspley, who in notching only their first win over the weekend cannot challenge for a finals berth. With Burleigh four points ahead in third, it looks likely that Norths Ipswich and Carina will be vying for that last finals position.

This Saturday, Souths Logan meet North Ipswich at 1.30pm at Brandon Park, while Beerwah host Aspley at Beerwah Sportsground with kick off at 5pm. Sunday looms as a pivotal match for Carina, who will travel to Pizzey Park to take on Burleigh at 3.45pm.

Division 2 sides also squared off over the weekend, with Toowoomba too strong at home, defeating Burpengary 20-0. Pine Rivers held on for a tight 26-24 victory over the Swifts, while ladder-leaders Waterford posted a resounding victory over Capalaba, 60-26. West Inala defeated Wynnum 16-12 to keep their finals aspirations alive.

The Division 2 competition ladder after round 14:

1.       Waterford – 23

2.       Toowoomba – 23

3.       Burpengary – 20

4.       Pine Rivers – 12

5.       West Inala – 12

6.       Swifts – 12

7.       Wynnum – 6

8.       Capalaba – 4

Such a close Division 2 competition makes for an interesting final three rounds of the season.

Waterford and Toowoomba look to be battling for the minor premiership, with Burpengary seemingly secure in their third position. A fast-starting Pine Rivers has struggled through the back half of the season, and will now have to battle it out with West Inala and the Swifts for the final spot in the top 4.

This weekend’s Division 2 matches see Wynnum travel to Toowoomba to take on the Fillies at 1pm, while Capalaba will host Pine Rivers at 1.30pm. The Swifts will look to keep their finals hopes alive when they meet Burpengary at 3pm at Burpengary Sportsground, and West Inala take on Waterford at JC Greenfield Complex with kick-off also at 3pm.
