TJRL President Jackie Stephson with the Mini/Mod most improved Marcus Fitzgerald and Alex Anderson. 

The Toowoomba Rugby League Referees Association held their annual banquet and presentations evening earlier this month.

The night was kicked off with Master of ceremonies Tim Bliss, who reflected on the year that was, including the sad loss of some of their members.

These included Carmel Merchant, former wife of long serving member Mick Merchant; well known and local past referee Brian Town; life member Merv Hart and 18 year old Adam Schwerin, who tragically passed away following a motor vehicle accident.

The audience was then also welcomed by President Rick Carter who summed up the year, thanked the sponsors and congratulated the referees for a great year. He touched on the fact that this year a few of the younger referees were given appointments to the senior games and there was a positive response and outcome due to this.

After a buffet dinner and dessert the presentations began and they are as follows:

Referee of the Year- Dan Ryan

Adam Schwerin Memorial Trophy for Most Improved Junior Referee- Marcus Fitzgerald

Junior Encouragement Award- Jack Redding and Jordan Fraser-Bellette

Senior Encouragement- Morgan Fanning & Hugo Mortensen

TJRL Referee of the Year- Hobie Wilmot

Eric & Anne Standing Perpetual Trophy for Most Improved Senior Referee- Jordan Edmonds

Rookie Encouragement- Kaelum Fraser Bellette

Most Improved Mini/Mod Referee- Alex Anderson & Marcus Fitzgerald

A Grade Debutantes- Adam Stevenson, Jordan Edmonds & Andrew Fitzgerald

Clubman of the Year- Terry Phillips

President’s Award- Sam Betros & Dylan Ezzy,

Brian Town Memorial Award for Referee with the Most Potential- Marcus Fitzgerald.

There was also a Life Membership awarded to Robert White and a Central Division Life Membership to Rex Little.

The Refs association would like to thanks their sponsors, Toowoomba Trophy Centre, Land Transport, Mark Philipson’s Betta Home Living and City Golf Club.

The TRLRA are looking forward to a bigger and better 2015 and will be showing off their new look pink uniforms, keeping in line with the QRL and NRL.
