Trevor “The Axe” Gillmeister received a hero’s welcome in Brisbane today when he completed his epic month-long walk in familiar surroundings.

Hundreds of family, friends and well-wishers chanted Gilly’s name as he walked the length of the Bishop Park rugby league field to complete the 1400km journey from Townsville to Brisbane.

Find out what Gilly had to say by watching the video.

Final donations are still coming in for the “Taking an Axe to Asbestos” initiative, but Gilly and the team hope the figure will eventually top $150,000.
