Central Burnett Brumbies have been hosting their U14 and U16 Carnival in Gayndah for about five years.

It was started when a group of players in this age group asked the question “Can we have our own carnival”.  Up until then, players could participate in the Mini/Mod Carnival at Wondai, which only caters up to U12’s.

This year’s carnival sees 6 Under 14 teams; Central Burnett Brumbies, Kingaroy Red Ants, Murgon Mustangs, Cherbourg Hornets, Wondai Wolves and Nanango Stags.  In the Under 16’s there were four teams; Central Burnett Brumbies, Kingaroy Red Ants, Murgon Mustangs and Cherbourg Hornets.

The carnival also provides the opportunity for these players to be selected in the South Burnett Rugby League Representative side that participates in the 47th Battalion.

With two fields operating, it was a tough day of competition for all.  The Under 14’s grand final for the carnival was between Kingaroy and Nanango.

An extremely hard fought game with both sides in a deadlock at full time.  Extra time ensured, but still no result.  It then came down to the first team to score – making Kingaroy Red Ants victorious.  It was a fantastic game to watch.  Well done to all the boys on both teams.

The Under 16’s grand final for the carnival was between Cherbourg and Kingaroy.  Both teams played well with the Cherbourg Hornets run away winners.

Competition was fierce for all teams in both grades with rep places up for grabs. It was a great showcase for things to come for the 2015 season in the Burnett Region.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all teams, referees, linesmen, supporters, parents and volunteers for a great day of Junior Rugby League. A special thank you to Sandra Kenny (Carnival Coordinator for Central Burnett Brumbies) who provided the information for this article.
