Norths Tigers defeated Swifts Bluebirds 24-8 in the Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A-Grade Cup on Friday.

The match between Norths and Swifts was originally scheduled for the first weekend of May but bad weather forced the fixture to be moved to June 12.

After applying sustained pressure on Swifts' tryline, Norths opened the scoring in the 6th minute when right centre Tonga Mounga got the ball from a back-line play and stepped his way over to give Norths an early lead.

The Tigers looked slick in attack and a lot of the options they took, and the precision with which they undertook those options, showed that they are a smart football side filled with smart footballers.

Norths hooker Chris Porter showed great vision in attack in the 17th minute when he took a quick run from dummy-half to create space and put Damien Peters into space before Peters powered his way over to score allowing Norths to extend its lead to 12-0.

A try late in the first-half to Brendon Lindsay gave the Tigers a 16-0 halftime lead.

Swifts started the second-half with great energy and it resulted in a try in the 43rd minute to Bluebirds lock Jaison Heck.

Norths were quick to respond with a great team try in the 53rd minute to take their lead to
22-4.

With two minutes remaining, Swifts winger Kurtis Frank scored a great try to give the Bluebirds a reward for their persistent attack.

Norths halfback Steven West kicked a penalty goal after the fulltime siren to take the final score to 24-8 in favour of the Tigers.
