The Queensland Maroons have retained their Under 15 National Championship trophy, defeating a combined New South Wales side 30-10 in last Friday’s final.
Captained by David Fifita, the Maroons dropped just one pool match, coincidentally to their grand final opponents.
But they rebounded in style with prop Geordie Brand scoring a double in the final.
Brand, who attends Keebra Park State High School on the Gold Coast, was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament in Pool A.
The six-day Years Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships was held at St Mary’s from June 21-26.
Teams from Queensland and NSW were placed in Pool A, with Pool B including sides from Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Western Australia took out the John Allen Trophy Pool B final with a 16-10 victory over Victoria.
An Australian merit team was named at the completion of the championships, with Queensland’s Fifita, Brand, Dejzha Pene, Jack Paterson, Cory Paix and Tanah Boyd earning selection.
