Ipswich returned to the top of the ladder in emphatic style with a 48-6 win over the Gaters on Saturday.
With ten of their best players buoyed from a representative win for Diggers, the Jets clicked into gear against a Gaters side who had only lost one match prior.
The Jets opened the scoring before their opposition even touched the ball, with former New Zealand Warriors Under 20s playmaker Mikaere Beattie burrowing over.
Beattie was on song with the boot as well, kicking seven from seven despite being one of three players sin binned for their part in a second half scuffle.
His combination with halfback Chris Ash continues to grow – the pair directing the Jets’ lateral shifts with pinpoint cut out balls.
The Jets shot to an 18-nil lead at the quarter point of the match when winger Ben White stepped through some tired defence under the sticks.
However, Gaters hit back in the 26th minute through Matt Lennon’s dummy.
But it was the Jets who rebounded to take a 24-6 lead into the break.
From there they put their foot down with four second half tries, the highlight some stellar support play on the fringe off a scrum win.
Josh Damen made the initial break before passing to White who then flicked a ball to Ash.
Ipswich next face Easts, who notched a confidence-boosting victory over Logan Brothers with experienced hooker Tommy Butterfield crossing twice on the comeback trail from a shoulder injury.
Redcliffe and Wynnum Manly Redland City also notched big wins.
The Seagulls, last year’s grand finalists, have shot into second position having won four straight.
