Term 2 has seen a number of rugby league players take part in a school-based competitions across the state.

The Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys sponsor major schoolboys competition in the state across varying age groups; including the Langer Trophy (Broncos) and Aaron Payne Cup (Cowboys).

These two 18 years competitions serve as a lead-in tournament to see which schools will go on to contest the GIO Cup (the National Schoolboy Competition).

The Gold Coast Titans sponsor a much-needed competition for “grassroots” schools on the South Coast. These schools are as yet unable to compete at the elite level, but still wish to play the great game of rugby league.

The North Queensland Cowboys’ Aaron Payne Cup competition aims to provide participants with regular, quality competition and encourage future participation in rugby league at state and national levels. It is round robin competition, with each school playing each other once. Teams ranked 1 and 2 will playoff for the Aaron Payne Cup. Teams ranked 3 and 4 will play Teams 1 and 2 in cross-pools to determine which schools will progress to the Queensland GIO Cup Finals Series.

The Langer Trophy is a high-quality, round robin competition featuring the top rugby league schools in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The schools taking part in the 2016 competition are: Keebra Park, Wavell, Ipswich, PBC, Coombabah and Marsden. These schools will progress to the Queensland GIO Cup Finals Series.

All competitions are played after school during Term 2 (April 11 – June 24); with finals are played over the first four weeks of Term 3.
