The regular season is now completed in the FOGS Colts Challenge, with Wynnum Manly Seagulls securing the minor premiership and a weekend off for Week 1 of the finals.

The Seagulls have enjoyed an impressive season so far with 19 wins and three losses, but were pushed hard by Ipswich Jets last weekend, only just securing their win by three points.

With tough competition ahead as they feature in the finals, Wynnum Manly will use their week off to prepare themselves for Week 2 finals, where they will meet either the Redcliffe Dolphins or East Tigers.

This first week of finals action will see the second-placed Dolphins take on the third-placed Tigers, while the Norths Devils – who finished the regular season in fourth place –  take on the fifth-placed Burleigh.

Leading into this weekend’s matches, the Phins posted an impressive 52-16 win over the Tweed Heads Seagulls where second rower Agassi Stowers was a stand out in the game with his three tries.

Finishing second on the ladder behind the Seagulls by only two points, the Dolphins are going to be tough competition in the finals for the Easts Tigers who are looking to redeem themselves after an upset 52-24 loss against Sunshine Coast Falcons last weekend.

The Tigers will be looking to regroup and will work hard together to ensure they put up a strong fight against the highly fancied Dolphins outfit.

This weekend will also see Norths Devils facing defending premiers the Burleigh Bears in an elimination final, after both teams secured wins in their last round before finals week.

The Devils posted a 54-20 win over Toowoomba Clydesdales with strong games enjoyed by fullback Jack Mackin and halfback Mitchel Treleaven who both scored two tries in the impressive win.

The Bears defeated South Logan with a final score of 26-16, with winger Brett Stratton scoring a double.

Both Colts matches will be played at Wynnum Manly’s BMD Kougari Oval this Saturday.
