The Palm Island community hosted the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks over the past weekend for their preseason training camp.

Blackhawks players and staff travelled to Palm Island by ferry on Friday and camped overnight at Wallaby Point.

Upon arrival, the team walked to the Council office where they were welcomed by Mayor Alfie Lacey.

Three Palm Island local players in Isaac Bulsey, Calvin Castors and Gresham Ross trained with the Blackhawks squad.

The Blackhawks thanked the Palm Island community for hosting them for the weekend and for coming out and showing their support to the players.

The Townsville players were especially appreciative of the community for treating the boys to a traditional feed on Friday night.
