The Star Gold Coast will feature on the new Maroons jersey for the first time in 2017, with fans able to get their first look at next year’s playing strip in a video campaign to be released by the QRL tonight on the Queensland Maroons social media platforms.
A host of current and former Queensland players came together on the Gold Coast for the shoot, which centres around a game of touch footy on the beach.
XXXX Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters is given the task of refereeing the encounter as Johnathan Thurston, Sam Thaiday, Corey Oates and Josh McGuire don the new jersey in their battle against Trevor Gillmeister, Brent Tate, Petero Civoniceva and Steve Walters.
QRL Managing Director Robert Moore said the video was a novel way to launch the new playing strip.
“Our Commercial and Digital teams have done a great job bringing this concept to life with more than a little help from some of the biggest names in rugby league,” Moore said.
“I would also like to acknowledge the support of The Star Entertainment Group. We’re delighted with the addition to our iconic Maroons jersey and we look forward to a prosperous 2017.”
The Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Queensland Geoff Hogg said Jupiters Gold Coast was incredibly proud to continue its support for the Queensland Maroons again in 2017.
“Embracing the spirit of our local community is extremely important to us and there is nothing more quintessentially Queensland than the passionate state-wide support offered to the Origin team each season,” Mr Hogg said.
“By the time the first game kicks off in May, we will have transitioned to The Star Gold Coast, so to see the mighty Maroons run onto their home ground bearing The Star branded jerseys is going to be fantastic.
“We’re proud to be supporting this state, and the Maroons, but also all those fans involved in the game of rugby league across so many levels in Queensland.
“We look forward to continuing to help drive special fan engagement activities throughout the series, and hope to see the boys take home another win in 2017.”
