South East Queensland Division’s pre-season Under 16 challenge series wrapped up last weekend with the Gold Coast’s Southport Tigers home venue of Owen Park hosting the Round 5 matches.

Brisbane Red started their clash with Brisbane Grey in great form and raced away to a commanding 26-0 advantage before Grey crossed twice to reduce the margin to 26-12 at the halftime break.

Another two Red tries in the second stanza resulted in a handy 38-16 win, completing a strong campaign from the Brisbane teams.

Centre Ezra Coulston contributed 18 points (2 tries, 5 goals) in his team’s total with five-eighth Logan Cox also notching a double.

Ipswich capped their series with a hard-fought win over an unlucky Brisbane Blue outfit.

Blue’s bustling defence did not allow the young Diggers any attacking options and Blue held a slender 16-12 advantage at halftime.

Brisbane maintained their lead for the majority of the match before strong Ipswich front rower Romeo Tanielu crashed over late for his second try to seal an exciting 24-20 win to Ipswich. For Brisbane, winger Lieny Ador was brilliant crossing for a hat-trick.

In the battle of the Gold Coast teams it was White that prevailed over Green in another entertaining game.

White capitalised on some handling errors from the Green outfit and led for the entire match, eventually running our winners by 30-16.

It was also White winger Andrae Semu who earnt bragging rights over twin Andrew, as he crossed for two tries in the win. Green winger Andrew could only score the one try.
