The debate continues to rage. Ahead of the naming of the XXXX Queensland Maroons team for the July 12 decider, NRL performances are dissected, combinations analysed, names shuffled.

Twenty-three-game Origin legend Brent Tate has weighed into the debate, keen on the return of a familiar face.

Maroon Member Gold: Your last chance to get tickets to Game III

“I’d have DCE at five-eighth,” he says. “Daly’s a different player than he was back in 2015 and his combination with Cooper Cronk would be good for us. I think he deserves another chance.”

In the centres, the former Origin centre likes what he sees in Michael Morgan to replace Darius Boyd. “Morgo has played out of his skin lately,” he says. “For me, he takes over from Darius at left centre. He’d do a great job for us.”

Tate leaves his forward pack unchanged from Game II but says, “I’d be looking for a bit more from Papalii to really make his mark in Game III as a leader of the forward pack.”

He also can’t overlook Storm rising star Cameron Munster for a bench spot and Origin debut. “He’s someone who can come on anytime in a few positions and break tackles, which we need.”

As always, Tate's key selection is the halves pairing. “I think Chez is really ready and he’d be chasing redemption from his last game. He’ll do the job.”
