The Townsville Blackhawks recorded an important win at Browne Park in Round 22, shaking off the CQ Capras in the 26-14 result.
With their place in the finals not yet secure heading into the Women in League round game – the NQ side headed to Rockhampton knowing they would need to put in a strong performance to claim victory.
However, it was the home side who struck first, with winger Ken Tofilau crossing over in the fourth minute.
The Blackhawks though were able to respond quickly, with Blake Leary finding his way over the line.
The Capras regained the lead when fullback Tony Tumusa crossed with halftime approaching after producing a stunning run from his own half.
Townsville were able to snatch back the momentum with two quick tries just before the break, with Carlin Anderson (37th minute) and Jordan Drew (39th minute) to take the lead 14-8.
Anderson got his double 15 minutes onto the second half, before fellow XXXX People’s Choice Award nominee Krys Freeman stole one back for the home side to cut the deficit with a dummy half dart.
However, the Blackhawks put the final touches on their win when Daniel Beasley crossed a minute from fulltime to give his side a key win.
Next week, the Capras will have the weekend off with the bye, while the Blackhawks will host the PNG Hunters in what should be an entertaining clash.
TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS 26 (Carlin Anderson 2, Blake Leary, Jordan Drew, Daniel Beasley tries; Carlin Anderson 3 goals) def CQ CAPRAS 14 (Ken Tofilau, Tony Tumusa, Krys Freeman tries; Cody Grills goal) at Browne Park.
