The Griffth Logan Redbacks have stormed back into contention for the Universities Rugby League Queensland premiership after an amazing win last week.

The Redbacks will head to play the Griffith Dragons at Nathan campus tomorrow night on a high after five tries from backrower Benjamin Kelly helped them to 79-10 demolition of Griffith Gold Coast Panthers. Samuel Vaughey also scored twice for the Redbacks.

But the Redbacks will meet a Dragons outfit stinging from their last-start loss to the Australian Catholic University.

Jharal Yow Yeh’s ACU welcomed back smart half Geoff Fabila; and with two tries from Australian Universities forward Harry Pondekas, had too much for the Dragons at Banyo.

Former Bulldogs and Newcastle Under 20s player Pondekas represented Australia in the recent win at the Universities World Cup tournament in Sydney.

The QUT Trouts have a big chance to take a stranglehold on the URLQ Minor premiership tomorrow night at the Gold Coast when they meet the Panthers.

QUT outstripped the UQ Hounds 16-10 last week in a tight clash at St Lucia that has left the Hounds with some work to do to make the finals.

Back rowers Owen McCarron, Ben Goulding and Zane Jones all scored as the Trouts came from behind.

ACU and the Hounds will not play tomorrow night, after earlier playing their round eight fixture at Suncorp Stadium.
