The below summaries are from the Southern Queensland GIO Schoolboy Cup semi finals which were played at BMD Kougari Oval on Wednesday, August 8.
Keebra Park SHS v Wavell SHS
Old foes Keebra Park and Wavell kicked off the afternoon of the GIO Cup Southern Queensland semi finals. The Gold Coast side made their intentions clear right from the outset and were able to get points on the board with their first touch of the football. Their first half display was all class and they proved too strong for their opponents who seemed to have no answers to the power of David Fifita and the finesse of Tanah Boyd, both of whom were instrumental in Keebra Park taking a comfortable 30-0 halftime lead.
The break was a chance for Wavell to assess the damage that had been done in the previous 30 minutes of football and start again to try to salvage some pride. But Keebra Park had other ideas, providing the spectators with another relentless half of football where they scored better than a point a minute to seal their spot in the GIO Cup Queensland semi finals.

Palm Beach Currumbin SHS v Marsden SHS
Palm Beach Currumbin were looking to pull off a victory and secure a second spot for the Gold Coast in the Southern Queensland division of the GIO Cup Queensland semi finals after witnessing the dominant display from Keebra Park earlier in the afternoon. Early indications pointed toward this being a possibility after the Marsden side made a shaky start to the match, allowing PBC to get out to an early 6-0 lead. While they were able to hit back and reduce the gap to 14-6 at halftime, Marsden still seemed to be feeling the pressure of the occasion.
Early in the second half, PBC skipped out to a 14-point lead, but the underdog Marsden side would not say die. This attitude saw them claw their way back into the contest and man of the match Fanitesi Nui was able to show nerves of steel to slot what would end up being the game deciding conversion.

The result would see Marsden enjoy a successful afternoon, as prior to the Keebra Park and Wavell match, their reserve side was able to win the Langer Reserve Grade grand final.
