Greg Inglis and Matt Gillett have opened up on the sacrifices they've made throughout their careers, and the personal experience of growing from backyard hopefuls to State of Origin stars.

In a candid four-part interview with QRL Media, Inglis and Gillett laid bare the emotional rollercoaster which has seen them wear Maroons' colours for a combined 48 appearances.

The first instalment sees them discuss sacrifices, particularly those which have been difficult to make.

"You sacrifice birthdays...sacrifice being there for unfortunate things like funerals – things you'd really like to be able to attend," said Inglis.

"I know of guys who have missed the birth of their own child.

"It's unfortunate, but that gets you to the career we've chosen."
