Stat of Origin: Why Inglis is offload king

Much has been made of the Blues' potency in attack, but Greg Inglis could easily become the star of the show again in this year's Holden State of Origin series.

Inglis was shocked to be named as Queensland captain this week however his attacking record at Origin level is less of a surprise.

As a youngster, his long strides and ability to offload in the tackle became a common sight, and the South Sydney skipper has also shown effectiveness as a provider for others to make ground.

According to NRL.com Stats, he leads the Maroons over the past decade in receiving offloads (making 253.3 metres, or 16.9 metres per offload) and creating attacking metres for others (his teammates average 14.3 metres each pass he provides).

It shows a remarkable ability to attack from anywhere on the pitch - whether playing at fullback, centre or wing.

Queensland can also point to the likes of Will Chambers, Dane Gagai and Josh Papalii's effectiveness in gaining yards over the past five years.

Witness Australia's greatest sporting rivalry when Origin comes to the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, June 6. Bronze tickets available from $49 here.
