Two days out from their own interstate decider, members of Queensland's male State of Origin team have wished their female counterparts well for tonight's historic match.

The Queensland Women's side will tackle New South Wales in the first female Origin contest at 7.30pm at North Sydney Oval, telecast live on Channel Nine.

Earlier this week players from both Queensland's male and female teams met up on the Gold Coast to share a meal and discuss their pending assignments.

Former Origin Great and regular Maroons support staff member Jason Hetherington will coach the women in their historic fixture.

Prior to the concept being rebranded as 'State of Origin', the women's interstate challenge had been won the past two years by New South Wales, following a remarkable streak of 17 unbeaten series by Queensland.
