Life came full circle at Maroons training today as retiring Origin legend Billy Slater grabbed a photo with his own hero – Allan Langer.

Slater, now an idol to scores of children himself, often tells the story of how he became enraptured with the sport by watching Langer running around in his prime.

He has even kept hold of the Langer no.7 jersey he wore imitating 'Alf' when he was a youngster growing up in Innisfail in north Queensland.

Today at training on the Gold Coast, Slater's son Jake posed in the same jersey alongside his father and was introduced to Langer.

Slater then grabbed a few fan pics himself with Langer and the well-loved uniform.

Next Wednesday's Origin clash at Suncorp Stadium will be Slater's 31st Origin appearance, just shy of Langer's 34, placing them both in elite company.
