Tigers steal draw from ladder-leaders Seagulls

A try in the final minutes of play saw Carina Tigers come from behind to draw with the competition-leading Seagulls in their BRL Reserve Grade encounter on Saturday.

The Tigers were on home soil at Leo Williamson Oval and enjoyed the bulk of possession throughout the game, denying the Seagulls an important two points that could potentially come back to haunt them.

Carina drew first blood after 21 minutes of play, with five-eighth Ryan Ficarra putting through a beautiful grubber kick that found centre Thomas Medcalf.

Carina looked the better of the two sides early on with the likes of Corey McEwan and Dale Jordan wreaking havoc up the middle.

The Seagulls, however, managed to wrestle back control of the contest when centre Luke Modini sent replacement player Sam Delange over to register the Seagulls first points of the afternoon.

With Wynnum now on a roll and finally finding their feet against the Tigers, Seagulls halfback Ben Jackson found Daniel Bertucci in support throwing a beautiful inside pass to send the strapping interchange forward over right on the halftime hooter.

Just one minute after the break, Seagulls hooker Jordyn Kuhn was on the receiving end of a lobbing pass and crossed under the sticks for a gift four pointer and it appeared that all the good work the Tigers had done early in the contest had completely evaporated.

However, the Seagulls wouldn't score another point for the afternoon and a resurgent Carina hit back not four minutes later with a try to Recce Janson, after good lead up work from hooker Cameron Robertson.

That try got the home team within six-points and led to a tense final period of play. With just two minutes left on the clock, Carina pulled a rabbit out of the hat when centre Jade May-Hoy sold a ridiculous dummy to the Seagulls defence and strolled in to score beside the posts.

Robertson made no mistake with the conversion, ensuring the scores were level as the fulltime siren sounded, concluding an incredible draw.
