The Burleigh Bears are in seventh heaven after notching a 34-12 win over the Central Queensland Capras at Pizzey Park this evening.
With seven consecutive wins, the Bears have held on to second spot on the competition ladder ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with the unbeaten Sunshine Coast Falcons next week.
It wasn’t the prettiest win of the season, as the Bears struggled to complete their sets for much of the second half, but they still had too much fire power for a Capras side who have now slumped to 10-straight losses.
“To put seven in a row together in this competition is a really good effort and to get another win today is fantastic,” Bears coach Jimmy Lenihan said.
“There are still things we’ve got to try and learn to do like to be a ruthless side and do things out of habit when we’re under fatigue.
“I don’t think we want to get confused. Winning a game of football is the first and foremost thing … to win 34-12 was a really good score for us, but at the end of the day we’ve got things we need to work on going into Sunny Coast next week.”

Scoring got underway early when the Capras allowed a Josh Rogers grubber to roll into the in goal. The ball then bounced favourably for Kurtis Rowe who was on the spot to score the opener.
Rowe completed an early double in the 14th minute when dummied and drove through a couple of defenders on the left-hand side of the field.
A set play on the right led to Brenko Lee drawing three defenders and getting a flick pass away for Tyronne Roberts-Davis to run around and score.
A Capras error in the 34th was picked up by Jacob Hind, who quickly fired the ball out to the right, where Jamal Fogarty accelerated into space to give the Bears a comfortable 22-0 lead at halftime.
Burleigh have had a remarkable defensive run and had not conceded a point since Round 8, but their streak came to an end after 231 minutes of football when a lovely cut-out pass from Kainoa Gudgeon put Elijah Anderson over in the corner.
Both sides struggled with their ball handling in a fairly messy second half, but Burleigh got back on track when Troy Leo made an electric run down the left-hand touchline to score his 11th try of the season.
Skipper Luke Page charged over in the 68th minute to stretch out the margin further, while a nicely weighted kick by Jack Madden led to Anderson’s second in the dying minutes.
Burleigh’s attention now turns to their clash with the unbeaten Sunshine Coast Falcons next Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons secured another big win of their own in Round 11, setting the stage for a blockbuster next week.
