Walters not short of Origin decider options

Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters has until one hour before the State of Origin decider to confirm who and where everyone will play after star Matt Gillett was ruled out with a groin injury just before the captain's run today.

Walters said he was confident in the options he had, but was in no rush to decide who would start.

Whilst Gillett being ruled out is a blow for the Maroons on the eve of the State of Origin decider, Queensland have two more than capable replacements in David Fifita and Ethan Lowe.

“Ethan Lowe has been with us all week. David Fifita is another guy we could play in there as well," Walters said.

Teen sensation Fifita has shown what he is capable of, and added another dimension for Queensland with his size, strength and leg speed in the two first games of this year's Origin series.

Lowe is no stranger to big games, having played in two grand finals with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2015 and 2017, and will not look out of place in the Origin arena.

In the absence of Kalyn Ponga, Lowe is also a handy goal kicking option with a career average of 77.58 per cent.

Bulldogs forward Dylan Napa has also joined camp as 18th man.

“Dylan has come in as a precaution for the side. He is another one who has been around the team so he is very comfortable around all the players and all the group," Walters said.

“We understand what is important is that whoever does wear that jersey, they will wear it with a lot of pride and a lot of justice."
