Titans tickled pink in Women's Invitational

The inaugural Gold Coast Titans Women’s Invitational Match has been won 22-6 by the Titans Pink team, in a dominant display at Cbus Super Stadium.

More than 200 players from all over Queensland applied to be a part of the game which eventually got trimmed down to two teams of 18. Three weeks of training culminated in an exciting and physical contest.

The Titans Blue and Pink teams contained a number of stars of the Queensland women’s game such as Tarnisha Lyons from Burleigh Bears, who scored a sensational try for Titans Pink.

Some incredible defence was on display early with two massive shot from Titans Pink forcing errors which led to their first two tries and taking an early lead.

The first try was scored by winger Jasmine Fogavini, with an amazing dive in the corner.

The second came from a terrific show strength from second rower Jailyn To’o, who barged her way through multiple defenders to slam the ball down.

Titans Blue fought hard to get back in the arm wrestle, but were unable to stop the unrelenting attack from Titans Pink, who scored another two tries in the first half to lead 22-0 lead at the break.

Titans Blue started the second half perfectly, scoring early with hooker Therese Aiton fending her way to the tryline.

But strong defence from Titans Pink, and an unfortunate injury to Titans Blue lock Jamie-Lee Lewis put an end to any hopes of a fightback.

Play was interrupted for several minutes while Lewis, the daughter of league immortal Wally Lewis, was attended to. She eventually was assisted from the field with what looked to be a serious arm injury.

Despite the injury to Lewis, the match was a complete success, with the skilful display appreciated by the vocal crowd in attendance.

The Titans Women’s Invitational was a show of intent from the Gold Coast Titans about the club’s seriousness in pursuing a future women’s team to compete in the NRLW premiership.
