Auswide Bank and QRL bring Origin to regional Queensland

State of Origin fever is set to sweep through fans in regional Queensland next month as the countdown to the 2021 series officially begins.

With the backing of Maroons partner Auswide Bank, the Queensland Rugby League is pleased to share details of a unique Origin tour that will drive a groundswell of regional support ahead of the highly-anticipated series.

A number of Maroons legends will head up the Auswide Bank Regional Tour with the key dates as follows:

  • Townsville – May 18
  • Mackay – May 19
  • Rockhampton – May 20

Fans can get into the spirit by booking their spot at three Maroons-themed dinners on each of these evenings, while keen Maroons supporters can also have their photo taken with the Origin shields.

QRL chief operating officer Rohan Sawyer said the Auswide Bank Regional Tour would kick-start Origin fever.

“State of Origin is the pinnacle event on the rugby league calendar for all Queenslanders and the fans are what make it so special,” Sawyer said.

“The Auswide Bank Regional Tour is a unique event, as it allows us to bring the passion and excitement of Origin directly to our regions.

“People in many of these communities don’t always get the same opportunities as those in Brisbane or surrounding areas, which is why we’re so grateful to Auswide Bank for making this possible.”

Auswide Bank Managing Director Martin Barrett echoed those sentiments.

“As the local bank based in regional Queensland, we understand what State of Origin means to the regional Queensland community, so to be able to support this initiative is fantastic,” Barrett said.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to come along and meet their Maroons heroes and get their hands on the Origin shields.”

Tickets to the dinners are now on sale at www.maroonsshop.com/hospitality
