Kayo streaming local sport for free in 2021

Kayo Sports has announced it will add local sports competitions across Australia to its unrivalled library of sports available to stream live and on-demand.

In a bid to boost community sport in Australia, Kayo will stream matches from select local leagues across the country for free via Kayo Freebies.

Kayo’s local sports offering will be headlined by the VFL and Intrust Super Cup – feeder competitions for the AFL and NRL respectively – and the National Junior Basketball Championships, which more than 770 young basketballers are set to compete in this year.

Kayo’s coverage of the VFL and Intrust Super Cup will include at least two exclusive VFL games per round and one exclusive Saturday fixture per round in the Intrust Super Cup, with all coverage LIVE and free.

“Kayo’s decision to stream local sports competitions aims to bring national exposure to sporting clubs all over Australia as they get back on their feet after a 2020 season drastically impacted by the pandemic," Kayo Sports marketing director Kim McConnie said.

“Local sport is not only critical to the sporting landscape in Australia, but is often the centre of communities across the country, and we are proud to give so many local leagues the platform they deserve and showcase their talent next to the elite, professional competitions.”

AFL head of talent pathways and state league competitions Tristan Salter said "we are so excited that VFL footy is back".

"All 22 clubs play a vital role in keeping their suburban and regional networks engaged. They are pillars of their local communities and so important to growing and nurturing our national code," Salter said.

“Kayo’s new streaming offering to state league competitions is a real boost for the VFL across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and we know the legion of supporters are looking forward to the return of the VFL season and there is much for fans to look forward to, whether that be attending matches or watching on Kayo.”

QRL chief operating officer Rohan Sawyer said "we are seeing a real shift in engagement across competitions that feed into the elite game and making that content available live and free to fans drives immense value back to our game".

"Kayo have clearly identified this early and we look forward to working with them on increasing this offering," Sawyer said.

In addition to streaming local sports leagues, Kayo is also launching a new campaign to support community sports clubs across the country.

As part of the campaign, Kayo are providing 50 $1000 cash grants to lucky rugby league and Aussie Rules clubs in NSW and Victoria, with participating clubs also given the chance to win one of ten Ultimate Kayo Days at their local ground, which will include the presentation of the cash grant, a visit from the Kayo Toyota Hilux packed full of giveaways and games and a special guest appearance by a sporting great.

Any local sports club in Australia will be able to register for a Kayo supporters sticker and complimentary 12-month Kayo subscription.

The initiative will be supported by Kayo’s presenting partner, Toyota Australia.

Two Kayo-branded Toyota Hilux vehicles will be at the centre of the NSW and Victoria activations and be used to transport talent and merchandise to local community sports grounds. Toyota Australia, a long term supporter of grassroots sport, will also sponsor the 'Match of the Round' during Kayo Freebies broadcasts, ensuring greater exposure for, and access to, the streaming of local sports.

Sports fans can access Kayo’s local sports coverage via Kayo Freebies by downloading the Kayo Sports app or visiting www.kayosports.com.au/freebies and registering for a Freebies account.

Kayo Freebies are free, and no credit card details are required to register and start streaming.
