Statewide competitions trials: March 5-6

It started with so much promise, but not much footy happened last weekend with an unprecedented weather event sweeping through Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and surrounding areas.

Only two statewide competitions games were able to take place across Round 1 of the Harvey Norman Under 19, Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup and Cyril Connell Challenge competitions last weekend, with most of the scheduled games postponed to a later date, which is to be confirmed.

Following a meeting with QRL statewide competitions staff and participating clubs, it was determined this weekend's matches would go ahead as planned with a few changes to venues.

Last weekend, the much-anticipated PacificAus Sports Melanesian Bowl game was called off due to the weather, but the special function celebrating the nations and culture Papua New Guinea and Fiji was still held.

Of the Hostplus Cup trials that did take place, only one half of the North Queensland Young Guns versus Mackay Cutters match was played, while Tweed Seagulls defeated Souths Logan Magpies in Tugun.
