Round 7 preview: A fine 50 for five-eighth Rogers

In Round 7 of the Hostplus Cup weekend, six teams in the competition will take to the field with three games being played.

The teams who were in action last weekend for Round 6 will have their bye this weekend. 

Here is your Round 7 'stats pack' with all of the numbers you need to know for this weekend's games, courtesy of Brad Tallon.

Hostplus Cup Round 7 

PNG Hunters v Norths Devils

  • This will be the first Cup game at Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba since Round 20 in 2013 and only the second to be played there since 2006
  • The Hunters have never played at this venue, while the Devils have played there five times and lost four games, all against Toowoomba
  • This season, the Hunters have lost their past four games and earlier this week, they released a media statement saying the club were "committed to making improvements to enhance their on-field performances when they resume" from the bye round and "the club would continue working hard towards its long-term goal of sustained success" in the QRL competition
  • In their last match in Round 5, the Devils survived an almighty scare from the Ipswich Jets and have now won their past three games
  • That win was Rohan Smith's last game in charge and the club has since confirmed the appointment of Ben King and Kevin Neighbour as coaches
  • The Devils have won the past three, and six of the past eight, games played between these two sides

Central Queensland Capras v Northern Pride

  • The Pride have two wins and one draw from the past three games played between these two sides
  • The Capras have won two and drawn one of their past three home games played against the Pride. However, only one of these matches was played at Browne Park, with the other two games played at Emerald and Gladstone

  • In team news, there were a number of changes announced to the Pride line up on team list Tuesday, with the inclusion of players including Bernard Lewis, Denzel King and Julian Christian 

Souths Logan Magpies v Burleigh Bears

  • The Bears have won five of the past six games played between these two sides, including two of the past three at Davies Park
  • The Magpies have won four of the past five games played at Davies Park
  • The Bears are in good form on the road recently and have won their past two away games
  • Burleigh require 23 points to bring up 140,00 Cup points, which would make them the fourth team to do so. They have 116,24 scored against them
  • This will be the 50th Cup game for Bears five-eighth Josh Rogers. Rogers has played his entire Cup career with the Bears and also only requires three more goals to bring up 100 in the Cup
  • On the field, there are a number of intriguing head-to-head match ups with many in-form players facing off including locks Rory Ferguson and Sam Coster and centres Ethan Quai-Ward and Sami Sauiluma
