Masters season to end with a bang at Capalaba

Rugby League Brisbane’s 2022 Masters season will conclude with a bang this weekend, as they wrap up their campaigns as part of the Capalaba Warriors’ Ronald McDonald Day and Josh Pople Shield.

Club president Tanya Bonney said the event held today – Saturday, August 6 – will kick off at 9am with the Under 9s gala day.

This will then move into a huge day of fundraising, footy and fun, with Bonney hoping the Masters players celebrate the end of their season in a big way.

“McDonald’s Bayside sponsor us and we have a round each year where a percentage of our profits get donated to Ronald McDonald House,” Bonney said.

“The Masters, being the last round, all the Northside teams are bussing it down and the club is putting on three hours of live music to keep them there, keep them happy and having fun, raising money for Ronald McDonald House.

“It’s going to be a really big day. We’ll have raffles, meat trays, all that sort of stuff.

“Our under 13 boys and under 14 girls are also doing a bake sale to go to the grand final. They fundraise for that and will be doing that on Saturday too.

“Then we’ll have our Josh Pople Shield, which we haven’t done since 2019. That used to be Capalaba Opens v Redlands Opens but will be our Masters team v Redlands Masters.

“This is for Josh Pople who is wheelchair-bound but loves rugby league and has done a lot for both clubs.

“Being the last round, Bobby Scurfield is going to kick the round off for the Masters for our team.

“Bobby’s coached since 1971 between Capalaba and Carina. He’s going to kick off and then we’re going to auction off his jersey at the end of year.

“This is our first year we’ve had a Masters team. Fingers crossed everything goes to plan and this will be the biggest year we’ve had for Ronald McDonald House.”
